Info

The Festival of New Dance, presented annually, remains NDW’s signature event, showcasing some of the most sought after contemporary dance produced in Canada, and providing main stage opportunities for local choreographers. The festival includes main stage performances, site-specific events, workshops, discussion forums, film screenings and art displays. Our artistic vision is to make a diverse program of dance available to the community, to present work that will appeal to a broad audience, and challenge and inspire our long-time supporters.

One of the goals of the Festival is to establish partnerships with other organizations. In the past this has included The Rooms (NL provincial art gallery and archives), The CanDance Network, Live Art Productions (Halifax), The Nickel Film Festival, The Society for Canadian Dance Studies, the Canadian Dance Assembly, A1C Gallery, Eastern Edge Gallery, Kittiwake Dance Theatre and DanceNL, our provincial sector organization.

The impact of our festival regionally, nationally and internationally is evident on many levels and is reflected in the feedback we receive, from artists, presenters and audience members. We foster the careers of local artists and we nurture artistic growth in our community through an ongoing commitment to present local work in the festival. We aim to connect our local dancers with artists from across the country and stimulate opportunities for artistic exchange that support their careers.
