Artist residencies and special projects
Creative Collaborations
Senior choreographers and collaborators work with local performers to create new work that is presented at the Festival of New Dance. Past residencies include TRUT, choregrapher George Stamos, Montreal; InHabitant choreographer Anne Troake, St. John's; St. John's iDUB Martha Carter, Vancouver; and Dance / Songs, a creation residency with Ame Henderson, Toronto in partnership with Live Art Dance Productions, Halifax.
Broken Accidents
A collectively led project with four artist collaborators. Loosely based on a the work of Toronto writer Phlip Arima, published by Insomniac Press, the project is an exploration of narrative and movement bringing together text, live dance, performance and choreography as the basis of expression. The project was conceived by writer/performer Joel Thomas Hynes and Director/inter-disciplinary artist Lois Brown. Louise Moyes and Sarah Joy Stoker will lead the movement and dance elements of the project. The project is partially funded through a Canada Council Creation Based Collaboration grant and is being co-produced with Resource Centre for the Arts Theatre Company.
Professional Development
Workshops and master classes are the focus of our 2008-9 season.
December 6 and 7, 2008. Martha Carter (Vancouver) - Developing choreography
January 23 to 31, 2009. Eryn Dace Trudell (Montreal) - Choreographic / Mentorship
Through these workshops, participants will learn about the choreographic process as it relates to the artist's teaching methodology and artistic practice. Participants will engage in an in-depth learning process whereby the artist offers creative tools and constructive critique and artistic guidance that will enhance one's own creative development. Group classes and one-on-one sessions with the artists will be offered. For information, contact ndwpublicity@nfld.net
