Basket (a performance work in progress)

Neighbourhood Dance Works is dedicated to supporting creative research via residencies and artistic exchange projects. These activities foster the investigation and intersection of artists working across disciplines. During the FND 2021, NDW is pleased to support the research of Meagan Musseau of Corner Brook, NL, working in consultation with choreographer / film-maker Anne Troake. In 2019, Meagan Musseau was one of three artists who participated in the inaugural Indigenous Dancer in Residency with our community partner, First Light.

Statement:

Basket (a performance work in progress) is a land-based performance by Mi’kmaw artist Meagan Musseau. Meagan’s process is rooted in intuition, weaving, and her body within the environment as a storytelling technology. She is working with choreographer Anne Troake to explore the practice of Authentic Movement as a generative force. For the Festival of New Dance, Meagan is opening up her creative process to be shared with a group of invited guests to witness this work in development.
