Join the Board of Neighbourhood Dance Works and Help Shape the Future of Dance in Newfoundland and Labrador

Neighbourhood Dance Works (NDW) is seeking engaged and enthusiastic individuals to join our Board of Directors. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the strategic vision of Newfoundland and Labrador’s leading contemporary dance presenter, ensuring that dance remains an integral part of the province’s cultural landscape.

Why Join NDW’s Board?

As a board member, you will be part of a team guiding a nationally recognized arts organization that has played a critical role in shaping dance in Newfoundland and Labrador for over 40 years. You will have a direct impact on initiatives that:

  • Support artists through residencies, workshops, and presenting opportunities.

  • Engage communities by bringing contemporary dance to new audiences across the province.

  • Advocate for dance as a vital artistic and cultural expression.

  • Shape the future of dance infrastructure, NDW is currently undertaking a feasibility study for a community dance facility in St. John’s.

What NDW Does & How You Can Make an Impact

From artist residencies to community performances, NDW’s work is expansive and deeply rooted in fostering a vibrant dance sector:

  • The Festival of New Dance (FND): Our flagship event, which has grown into a two-week festival featuring performance, workshops and ancillary activities featuring local and national artists.

  • Artist Residencies & Development: Initiatives like the Indigenous Dancer in Residency, the Roberta Thomas Legacy Award, and collaborations with dance artists across Canada.

  • Sector Advocacy & Innovation: We launched the Atlantic Dance Gathering (2024) to foster collaboration across Atlantic Canada and secured funding for vertical dance equipment, laying the groundwork for new performance opportunities, and are spearheading Atlantic Youth Dance Engage Strategy 2025-2027 initiatives.

  • Expanding Access to Dance: We are bringing dance to communities across Newfoundland and Labrador, supporting touring artists, and bringing dance to communities outside of the Avalon.

  • Building for the Future: NDW is leading a feasibility study for a purpose-designed community dance facility, ensuring sustainable infrastructure for dance in the province.

Who We’re Looking For

We welcome applications from individuals with diverse backgrounds, experiences, and skill sets. Whether you are a lawyer, accountant, construction contractor, artist, arts administrator, entrepreneur, educator, or community leader, your expertise can help NDW grow.

If you value the arts and are keen to contribute, we encourage you to apply.
