Neighbourhood Dance Works is proud to be co-presenting Ballet Kelowna on their Newfoundland and Labrador Tour for 2023, in partnership with the Arts and Culture Centre, the Lawrence O'brien Arts Centre, and made possible through the generous support of Canadian Heritage's Support for Workers in Live Arts.
The program opens with taqeš by Tla’amin Nation choreographer Cameron Fraser-Monroe to music by composer Jeremy Dutcher. This piece tells the traditional story "Raven Returns the Water", centered around p̓oho (raven) and walθ (frog).
Next, choreographer Guillaume Côté brings strength and fragility to a fascinating interpretation of Maurice Ravel's famous Bolero. A captivating piece with breathtaking lifts.
Finally, MAMBO by Alysa Pires draws the crowd to Latin, swing, and jazz rhythms performed by musical legends such as Dean Martin, Perry Como, and others.
