Ballet Kelowna Tour 2023

Neighbourhood Dance Works is proud to be co-presenting Ballet Kelowna on their Newfoundland and Labrador Tour for 2023 with Kittiwake Dance Theatre as curtain riser on select locations. In partnership with the Arts and Culture Centre, and made possible through the generous support of Canadian Heritage's Support for Workers in Live Arts.

Ballet Kelowna

The program opens with taqeš by Tla’amin Nation choreographer Cameron Fraser-Monroe to music by composer Jeremy Dutcher. This piece tells the traditional story "Raven Returns the Water", centered around p̓oho (raven) and walθ (frog).


Next, choreographer Guillaume Côté brings strength and fragility to a fascinating interpretation of Maurice Ravel's famous Bolero. A captivating piece with breathtaking lifts.


Finally, MAMBO by Alysa Pires draws the crowd to Latin, swing, and jazz rhythms performed by musical legends such as Dean Martin, Perry Como, and others.

Kittiwake Dance Theatre

(Curtain riser in St. John's, Gander, and Grand Falls-Windsor)

Set to Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons, Janie Richard’s I’nverno is a stunning example of baroque music and contemporary dance coming together to create a powerful and moving work of art. Richard’s choreographic interpretation of Vivaldi’s story of the seasons expertly captures the emotions and themes of the music. Kittiwake is performing one of four movements of the dance work.
